Mower Deck Renovation Underway

Painted the bottom of the Bolens 1455 garden tractor mower deck "Regal Red" by Rustoleum this afternoon.  Then I wirewheeled the top of the mower deck and primted it.  Didn't have time to spray paint it, but am satisifed it would only take another hour or two to finish it.  Here are some photos:

First photo is the "before" picture, then the newly-painted bottom and finally the primed upper portion.  So I will spray-paint the top later this week and declare it ready for re-assemblyy.

  2. Yes, the mower deck was fully restored and entered into service with Railroad Partners, Inc., in early 2012, powered by a Bolens 1250 tractor engine mounted on a railroad motorcar trailer. Service revealed that the mounting posts for the pulleys were simply not strong enough to keep the pulleys parallel to the deck, so my machinist friend and fellow RPI member Frank Glatzl fabricated new posts which have since solved the problem. I am pleased to say the contraption is performing just as I had hoped. It is stored up at Llano at the end of track, out of the elements and secure from vandals, and we use it throughout the season to keep the grass down along the Llano-Kingsland portion of the Capital Metro Railroad. Take care, Ed.
